Learning a language is an exciting journey, but how do you know where you stand in your progress? At EcoleDeLangues.be, we use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to assess and certify your level. Discover the different levels and test your language skills!
What is the CEFR?
The CEFR is an internationally recognized scale that classifies language proficiency into six levels, from A1 (beginner) to C2 (mastery). Developed by the Council of Europe, this tool standardizes language learning and assessment, facilitating academic and professional mobility.
CEFR Levels in detail
A1 – Beginner
You can understand and use basic expressions and simple phrases to meet immediate needs. You can introduce yourself and ask simple questions about others but require assistance in longer conversations.
A2 – Elementary
You understand frequently used phrases related to personal and everyday contexts. You can communicate in simple tasks requiring direct information exchange and describe aspects of your background and surroundings.
B1 – Intermediate
You understand main points of clear standard communication on familiar topics. You can handle most situations when traveling and produce simple connected texts about personal interests and experiences.
B2 – Upper Intermediate
You comprehend complex texts and engage in spontaneous and fluent conversation. You can express detailed viewpoints and arguments, making this level essential for academic or professional settings.
C1 – Advanced

C2 – Mastery
You effortlessly understand nearly everything you read or hear. You can summarize and reconstruct information from various sources, expressing yourself precisely and subtly in complex situations.
